Rust's in-game Official tab against everything elseOfficial servers are the ones in Rust's in-game Official tab: Facepunch's own and its partners', such as RustSpain. Rust Zerg Life keeps that list by hand, by hostname and address. Everything else is a community or modded server.
This is everyone on a public Rust server right now, counted from what each server reports, refreshed every five minutes. 92,196 players are on 11,789 servers, and 145,095 is the high for the last day, with a peak of 104,688. The player base swings hard: European evening carries the most, while the quietest hours run at less than half that. Below the live number you get the history, plus how those players split by game mode, modded or vanilla, group size, gather rate, region and wipe day.

Q-01How many people are playing Rust right now?
92,196 players are on public Rust servers right now, refreshed every five minutes. That number moves a lot through the day; the busiest hour usually runs at more than double the quietest. It counts public servers only, so it is lower than the figure on Steam.
Q-02Why is this lower than the Steam player count?
Steam counts everyone with Rust open, including menus, loading screens and private or unlisted servers. This page counts players on public servers only. That is also why we can split them by modded or vanilla, group size and region.
Q-03When is Rust busiest?
The European evening is the peak, and the US evening runs it close. Australian evening lands in the UK late morning, so it fills a different slot. Force wipe day pushes the whole curve up, so compare the same weekday against the last week.
Q-04Do more people play modded or vanilla Rust?
Modded holds more players in total, mostly because there are far more modded servers. Vanilla and official servers usually run fuller per server. The live split is on this page and shifts as servers report.
